A Testimony by Apostle Simbarashe Makonese
A Life-Changing Vision and Testimony
Many years ago, while reading a brief article in a Christian magazine about the Name of Jesus, I experienced something that profoundly shaped my understanding of faith, healing, and the authority given to believers in Christ.
The magazine had been written and published by an American preacher who is widely associated with a doctrine of material prosperity that I later came to recognise as biblically unsound and inspired by the antichrist .
At the time, however, I was unaware of this. What mattered in that moment was not the author, but the spiritual encounter that followed as I began to read the article.
A Vision That Shook Me
Almost immediately after starting the article—though it was only a few paragraphs long—I was suddenly caught up in a vivid vision and could no longer continue reading.
In the vision, I saw a version of myself standing before a man who was suffering from a severe headache. The man was bowing before me, and I was placing my hands upon his head. As I laid my hands on him, I heard myself clearly declaring these words:
“In the name of Jesus, be healed!”
At the very moment those words came out of my mouth, I saw something remarkable. Rays of light - shimmering like streams of electricity - began to flow from every direction in the universe and converge upon the head of the man before me.
Instinctively, I understood that what I was witnessing was the unlimited power of the almighty God being released through the authority of the Name of Jesus.
I understood that nothing under the sun has the capacity to withstand the immeasurable power of God that is released by the prayer of faith and authority of the name of Jesus.
James 5:14-15 (WEB),
"Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."
This vision ended suddenly, and I found myself once again seated with the magazine still in my hands.
The experience left a deep impression on my spirit.
From Vision to Reality
A few days later, I was leading a youth service in my former church. During the service, a brother approached me requesting prayer because he was suffering from a terrible headache. As he knelt before me, I initially felt unprepared to pray for him. I was conscious that I had not fasted or prayed extensively in the days leading up to that moment.
However, as I stood there, the vision I had experienced came back vividly to my mind.
At that moment I understood something critical: the power of healing does not originate from human effort, personal holiness, or the amount of prayer one has accumulated. Rather, the authority lies in the Name of Jesus Christ, and the believer’s responsibility is simply to exercise faith in that Name.
Scripture consistently affirms that miracles and healings occur through the authority of Christ’s Name. When Jesus commissioned His disciples, He promised that supernatural signs would accompany those who believe.
Mark 16:17–18,
"And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons… they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Likewise, Jesus Himself assured His followers:
> “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:13–14).
The apostles later demonstrated this same principle in the early church. When Peter healed the lame man at the temple gate, he made it clear that the miracle occurred not by human power or personal holiness but through faith in Jesus’ Name.
Acts 3:6 (WEB),
"But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have, that I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!”
Acts 3:12 (WEB),
"When Peter saw it, he responded to the people, “You men of Israel, why do you marvel at this man? Why do you fasten your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him walk?"
And afterwards Peter explained...
Acts 3:16 (WEB),
"By faith in his name, his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which is through him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all."
Remembering the vision and these truths, I prayed exactly as I had heard myself speak in the vision. Placing my hands upon the brother’s head, I said,
“In the name of Jesus, be healed.”
Immediately after the prayer, the brother stood up with a broad smile on his face. The headache had completely disappeared.
In that moment I witnessed firsthand the truth of what Scripture teaches: that the authority of the believer is not rooted in personal merit but in Christ Himself. As the apostle Paul later wrote:
> “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17).
Since that day, I have seen countless miracles occur whenever I pray for people with this understanding of simply exercising faith in the authority of the Name above every name.
For the power is not in the individual minister, but in Jesus Christ, whose Name carries divine authority in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.
Philippians 2:9–10,
> “God has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow.”
May this testimony stand as a reminder that the power of God is released through faith in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Name through which salvation, healing, and deliverance are made available to humanity.
Acts 4:12 (ESV),
> “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Friend, the same power is available to you today. Step out in faith, call upon the Name of Jesus, and watch God move.
Romans 10:13 (KJV),
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
